Chinese Economy – Story from China
Over the years we have consistently heard of the growth of China and its huge investment plans in the UK. The Government and its ministers talk passionately about investment in our Energy and Infrastructure Sectors. During my recent visit to China I witnessed firsthand the scale of construction projects already completed but also those still under construction. These projects made spaghetti junction look exactly that, a plate of spaghetti! You witness the extremes, with scaffolding made of bamboo on rural and inner city projects to a certain height and scale of the Three Gorges Dam and the beauty of Shanghai Magley Train.
Listening to the news and reading the Shanghai Daily and South China Morning Post, I thought you might be interested to know what China is saying about investment in the UK:
“China’s outbound direct investment is expected to surpass US $1 Trillion for the first time in 2015, as slowing economic growth and rising internationalisation of Chinese business see’s more local companies investing overseas.”
“The Government has unveiled policies to support the global efforts of Chinese companies, offering financial incentives and removing administrative controls on offshore deals.”
“Many of this year’s big ticket deals were done by Chinese firms buying financial services assets, including HNA Group Co’s subsidiary Bohai Leasing Co, which paid US $2.56 Billion for aviation leasing firm Avolon Holdings Ltd.”
“One Belt, One Road is undoubtedly the most important new development in the ever greater connectivity between China and the rest of the world.”
The Chinese economy is slowing, but not to the scale we have experienced in the UK in recent years. China still represents excellent opportunities both at home and abroad for the UK Construction Industry. Collaboration is high on the agenda with organisation’s sharing ideas, skills and forming long term sustainable relationships.
I would thoroughly recommend visiting China and witnessing first hand the historic sites we are all familiar with but also the New China that is emerging and looking to embrace the world. We can learn so much from each other – we never stop learning or working harmoniously for the greater good.
